We visit the neighbourhood of Turkman Gate where the only Empress to have ruled Delhi, Razia
Sultan is (supposedly) buried. We walk past some narrow lanes, interact with a couple of local
craftsmen and hear interesting tales. We meet a bird keeper and his Massakali. Followed by visit to
the famous Kalan masjid, built along with six other mosques during the Tughlaq dynasty by
Junashah Telangani. We pay our respects at the final resting place of Shah Turkman Bayabani,
Razia sultan’s mentor, popularly known as Dada Peer. The walk ends with an enthralling performative storytelling on the life of Empress Razia Sutan at her
burial place. A woman way ahead of her times, someone who proved her metal in a man’s world.
